Fernanda Magliaro Aburaya PhDFernanda Magliaro Aburaya, PhD, ABAC is a Florida-licensed audiologist (Au.D. equivalent) with over 18 years of experience in clinical practice, training and research across hospitals, research labs and clinics. She is passionate about leveraging audiology expertise to enhance professional education, strengthen partnerships and improve access to cutting-edge hearing technologies. Dr. Aburaya is skilled in hearing evaluations, electrophysiology, complex pediatric assessments and student supervision, and is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish.

Most of her career has been spent at the University of São Paulo in a dual role:

As a Researcher:

  • Published 29 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 62 conference abstracts and 7 book chapters.
  • Supervised, trained and mentored undergraduate and Ph.D. students.
  • Co-led research projects at the Auditory Evoked Potential Lab, studying diverse populations, including individuals with HIV, cochlear implants, hearing loss, ASD, Down syndrome and more.
  • Engaged in various other research activities.

As a Clinical Audiologist Supervisor:

  • Supervised 720 hours per year of clinical practice in adult and pediatric comprehensive and specialized audiological evaluations across diverse settings (hospital, primary care unit and specialized clinic).
  • Trained 20+ audiology students annually in audiological, electroacoustic and electrophysiology procedures (ABR, MLR, CAEP), totaling 5,160 hours.
  • Conducted more than 7,000 comprehensive and specialized audiological assessments for pediatric and adult patients, including complex cases involving developmental disabilities, ensuring accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
  • Led over 120 case discussions, scientific seminars and training sessions, fostering evidence-based practice and academic excellence.
  • Engaged in various other supervisory and clinical activities.

Makenzie Pauline AuDDr. Makenzie Pauline earned her Doctorate of Audiology degree from the University of Florida in May 2025. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in May 2021. She completed her clinical residency at the James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital in Tampa, FL where she obtained valuable experience with vestibular evaluation, diagnostic testing, hearing aids, verification and cochlear implants.

Dr. Pauline is trained in the areas of comprehensive audiological evaluations for patients of all ages, advanced hearing technology, osseointegrated (bone-anchored) hearing devices, cochlear implants, electrophysiology (including electrocochleography, vestibular evoked myogenic potentials and auditory brainstem response) and vestibular evaluation (including videonystagmography and rotational chair assessments).

Dr. Pauline is a licensed audiologist in the state of Florida and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Hannah Spence AuDDr. Spence completed her undergraduate coursework at West Virginia University, where she graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She continued her education at WVU, where she earned her Doctorate of Audiology in 2025. As a graduate student, Dr. Spence gained clinical experience in a wide variety of settings, including university clinics, private audiology practices and ENT practices. She completed her clinical residency under Dr. Mitch Aquilina with ENT & Allergy Associates at the Jupiter location. 

Dr. Spence's areas of interest include:

  • Diagnostic and Rehabilitative Audiology for the Adult and Pediatric Populations

  • Counseling and Aural Rehabilitation

  • Selection and Fitting of Amplification (Hearing Aids)

  • Cochlear Implant Services

  • Vestibular/Balance Assessment and Rehabilition

Michele Phillips AuD2Michele Phillips completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1990 and 1992 respectively. She later continued her education and earned her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree in 2005 from Arizona School of Health Sciences.

Dr. Phillips has thirty years of experience in a variety of clinical settings, including ENT, hospital and private practice. She has worked with patients from infants to geriatrics in both diagnostic audiology and vestibular/balance testing. Dr. Phillips understands the negative impact of hearing loss on patients and their families, and has extensive knowledge of hearing aid technology, assistive listening devices and tinnitus management. Dr. Phillips is a member, and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence, from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is an active member of the American Academy of Audiology.
